Electric wine openers are the most recent iteration of the wine tool that has been around for more than 200 years. Unlike mechanical models, electric openers don’t require any force or special skills to uncork a bottle.

There are many different models to choose from, and you always get some accessories to go with the opener. But in there are a few things that make the Munion opener special. Keep on reading to find out more.

Munion Electric Wine Opener

As indicated, the Munion wine opener is an electric model. It’s cordless and runs on rechargeable batteries, and it’s also FDA certified. It comes in a kit that gives you everything you need to open and pour wine.

Who is this product for?

While the Munion is a popular choice among wine aficionados, collectors, and winemakers, it is a good option for anybody who enjoys a glass of good wine at the end of the day. It is easy to use and looks really cool on the countertop. But would this opener fit the needs of a bar or restaurant?

It’s safe to assume that it would because it has a powerful motor and a solid construction. According to the manufacturer, you can use it to open up to 45 bottles on a single charge, meaning that it might be useful for commercial purposes. Of course, it’s not as compact as a waiter’s friend, but the guests are bound to find it interesting.

On the other hand, this opener is a bit pricey for an off-brand model. If you’re on a tight budget, there are good electric openers you can get for less.

What’s included?

In addition to the opener, this kit includes a stand, a vacuum stopper, and a pourer/aerator. If you’ve already checked out other wine opener kits, you know that there is usually a foil cutter as well. In the case of the Munion, it is hidden in the stand.

You need to remove the opener from the stand to cut the foil, which might be a bit of a drag. The stand is not too big, but cutting foil with it can be cumbersome. As for the other accessories, the real highlights are the pourer and vacuum stopper, which are nicely designed.

Overview of features

The optimized design is one of the features that separates Munion from other models. The housing is entirely made of stainless steel and there’s just a small window at the bottom that reveals the corkscrew. It is protected with a plastic case and there’s a blue LED.

The buttons are flush with the body and there is also a battery life indicator at the top. Most of the competition features only one LED light, indicating that the opener is empty or full. However, the Munition has a four-stage indicator that tells you how much juice is left in the opener.

This model has a built-in battery that reaches a full charge in three or four hours. The long recharge time is a common issue with electric wine openers. When it comes to ease of use, you shouldn’t have any trouble using the device, even if your hands are small.

The opener has a simple tubular design without any soft grips or contours. The stainless steel is brushed which makes for an easier grip and minimizes slipping. However, this model would benefit from some sort of anti-slip grip.

How to use it

Start by removing the foil, then position the opener onto the bottle so that the tip of the worm is at the center of the cork. Hit the down button and keep holding it until the cork pops out. How do you get the cork out? Press the up button and hold until the cork worms out.

Pros

  • All stainless steel body
  • Uncorks 45 bottles on a full charge
  • Features a docking station
  • Battery life indicator

Cons

  • Foil cutter could be better

Alternative

The Munion electric opener is an excellent choice but this doesn’t mean you shouldn’t explore other options. For example, the Cusibox opener can give this Munion model a run for its money.

The Cusibox opener can also uncork 45 bottles on a single charge and it has an excellent design. But unlike the Munion, the Cusibox kit features an electric vacuum sealer as well. There is also a slide-out foil cutter that performs better than the Munion one and you get two bottle stoppers with a date dial. As for the downsides, the Cusibox wine opener kit set doesn’t include a pourer/aerator.

Conclusion

Overall, the Munion electric wine opener looks and feels well-built. The charging time is a bit long, but you should be able to uncork a bottle in about eight seconds with no effort at all. Additionally, this model sports elegant contemporary aesthetics and would make for a nice present.

The only downside is the foil cutter that’s incorporated with the docking station. Nevertheless, this doesn’t take away from the opener’s usability.
